The History of the Nick & Nora Glass

The story of the Nick & Nora glass has its roots in classic cocktail culture, dating back to the 1930s. The name comes from the fictional characters Nick and Nora Charles, featured in Dashiell Hammett’s 1934 novel The Thin Man, which later became a popular film series. Nick and Nora Charles were known for their sophisticated lifestyle and love of cocktails.

The glass was designed and named after them due to its elegant and refined appearance, perfectly complementing the sophisticated cocktail culture of the era. It is a smaller glass, typically holding around 10-15 cl, with a long, slender stem and a rounded, dome-shaped bowl. It is ideal for serving cocktails without ice, such as martinis, Manhattans, and classic Nick & Nora cocktails.

Today, the Nick & Nora glass has been rediscovered and embraced by modern bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts who appreciate its stylish look and ability to enhance the aromas and flavors of cocktails. It has become an iconic element in contemporary cocktail culture, serving as a reminder of past elegance and refinement.
